Attilio Carmagnani founded the company in 1904 as a one-man business; importing spirits, calcium carbide, and mineral oils through a small warehouse in the port.
With the Second World War looming, the company moved to the Coastal Warehouse of Multedo Pegli which was still under construction, and was inaugurated in 1946 with the unloading of the first ship.
In 1967 the newly founded Attilio Carmagnani "AC" Co. Ltd decided to specialize its activity in the distribution of chemical and petrochemical products.
As a consequence, the Chemical Analysis Laboratory of Genoa was also expanded and strengthened, and seen as a fundamental support to the Company's core business.
In the mid 70's, through a partnership with an important Libyan manufacturer of methanol, the Company became the Mediterranean market leader in this area.
In 1987 Carmagnani experienced a difficult time and undertook a new transformation: it left the small distribution business and the relative warehouses, and decided to concentrate exclusively on two of its historical activities: trading and the management of the Coastal terminal.
Next, the "Chemical Laboratory" of the company span off into the new Analisi & Controlli S.p.A. which was a leaderin its products and services line.
